Every year on Human Rights Day, December 10, Lethbridge and area community members come together to write letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience from all over the world.

This year, for our 15th annual Amnesty Lethbridge’s Write 4 Rights event, the event will look a little bit different due to the pandemic. We are putting your safety first while still offering the event that you have come to love over the years.

As every year, this year too we will have live music, a silent auction, prizes and contests, and an opportunity to chat while you write your letters! The event is FREE, open to the public, and for all ages. Join virtually with your household/family!

Important: Performers will be streamed through the online event only. They will not be present in person at the local post.

In 2021, we focus on 10 cases where Canada-wide and global activism can make a huge difference, right now. Join us to help bring international attention and solidarity to these cases. We know that together we can make a real difference in people’s lives. Click the button/link at the top of the page to access cases, info, and resources.

Performances

This year’s musical performances feature Stephanie Braverock & Olivia Tailfeathers as well as Dave McCann!

Performance times will be announced soon!

Note: Performances will be streamed (not live at the physical location).

Silent Auction

As always, the W4R event includes a silent auction, featuring donations and sponsored items by local individuals and businesses! The link will be shared with all registered participants closer to the event.

December Letter Writing - Cards of Hope and Solidarity

Join us online from the comfort of your home for our monthly letter writing. Between Dec 1 and Dec 10, we will be writing cards of support and hope for 10 human rights defenders from our Write for Rights appeals. We want to send them positive messages letting them know that people are thinking about them and that we support them. Then on December 10 we will be hosting a Write for Rights event to write letters to call for an end to the human rights abuses these individuals are facing.

If you have mobility or accessibility issues and would like to receive some cards and a letter writing package for Write for Rights we will deliver it to your door, and then pick it up and mail it for you. Just email or Facebook message Amnesty with your name and address and a good time to deliver them.

Once you write your cards we will pay the postage. You can drop them off at the Owl Acoustic Lounge at 606, 3 Ave South. Please consider ordering a take out meal from them as they have supported our Amnesty group for years. If you live in the Lethbridge area we can also pick up your cards from your home address, just email or Facebook message us your address and when to pick them up between now and December 17th by 8:00 pm.
